The UC96 ver 2.0 is a compact board built on a high performance microcontroller and field-programmable peripheral IC. It has a configurable hardware structure suitable for building a wide variety of standalone embedded systems. Typical applications are in instruments, data acquisition, controllers and other intelligent digital systems.
It is based on the INTEL MCS-96R family of microcontrollers. The standard board is delivered with an N80C196KC-20 for 8, 12, 16 or 20MHz operation. Migration to other members of the MCS-96R family is possible.
The standard board comes with 32Kbytes of OTP ROM and 66 Kbytes of SRAM. The ROM can be expanded to 128Kbytes of EP or OTP type while the SRAM can be expanded to 130Kbytes. 2Kbytes of SRAM can be connected to a battery source (3Vdc) to retain data after power is removed.
A serial port on board supports full duplex RS232-C using only three lines (RxD, TxD and DGND). A second RS232 serial port can be programmed using software or firmware.
For analog-to-digital (A/D) conversions, the board uses the A/D converter integrated into the MCS-96 microcontroller which is programmable for 8- or 10-bit operation. The microcontroller has a 8-channel analog multiplexer with sample and hold. The analog inputs are fully-buffered to protect the microcontroller from over- or under- voltage. Analog input impedance on each channel is not less than 200Kohms.
The board can provide 2 or 4 channels of digital-to-analog (D/A) outputs with 12-bit resolution, in addition to the 3 channels of PWM outputs. These D/A outputs are also fully buffered and capable of supplying upto 20mA of current. They can be configured individually for unipolar or bipolar and 5Vdc or 10Vdc operation. For precision measurements and outputs, a REF02 IC can be inserted onto the board and configured by jumpers to serve as analog reference.
The UC96 boards come in two sizes:
Both versions come with:
The more compact board UC96-SD v2.0 does not have A/D buffers and D/A converters but it can be battery powered. Therefore it comes with a battery holder which takes 4 AA batteries.
